Chelsea Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand commissioned me to design their Values, DNA (profiles) and team learning group icons incorporating New Zealand local flora, birds, lizards, eels and insects and Te Reo Maori and English translations. The style had to compliment the existing school logo, brand, colours and style in a much more cohesive way as the previous graphics they had were a range of many different styles and colours creating a confused fusion of elements.
My solution was to take the simple line element of the school logo and use this as a basis for my style and then use bright basic colours within the illustrations to help define each group. The 'creature' graphics I illustrated to be slightly quirky adding a fun factor that would appeal to the children. My idea was to integrate these creature graphics into everyday play and learning areas within the school, examples being wall tiles, games, large interactive playground illustrations etc.
