Broadway Property Group commissioned me to create a kauri forest window decal design for their new building facade in Titirangi, Auckland, New Zealand. I then used the pattern elements from my facade design in a simplified design laser cut out of steel positioned between the front windows on the second level.
I designed and illustrated this 'forest' using positive and negative shape formations integrated together to form the bark pattern of the main tree trunks. The pattern is made up of heart shapes and other organic shapes interlinking to form a kauri tree forest. The laser cut panelling on the sides of the building between the windows are a more simplified version of the pattern...almost like a fingerprint... this is a naturally occurring pattern within the kauri tree bark.
On a sunny day the sunlight shining through the window decal casts a forest-like shadow across the internal walls which can be quite captivating.
